We gave both the Jaspr Air Scrubber and the Sans Air Purifier a full trial. Here’s what we discovered.
Round One: Your Wallet
The Jaspr Air Scrubber comes in at an absolutely whopping $1,199. The Sans Air Purifier, meanwhile, costs just $469.99 $369.99. That’s over $800 cheaper for a unit with comparable (or stronger) filtration performance.
When it comes to price, we also need to consider the cost of replacement filters. Jaspr’s replacement filter cost $199 every 6 months, while Sans’ replacement filter costs just $39.99 $35.99 when you subscribe & save (they last about 3 months).
Even factoring in more frequent filter changes, the annual cost of ownership isn’t close: Sans comes out to roughly $143.96/year in filters, compared to Jaspr’s $398/year… and that’s already on top of an entry price that’s over three times higher to begin with.
Sans is the clear winner here on price, and it isn’t particularly close.
Round Two: Does It Actually Clean Your Air?
Price isn’t everything. Of course, you want a purifier that actually works. Both units use professional-grade HEPA filtration paired with activated carbon (Sans uses a full pound of activated carbon in its filter) to tackle dust, allergens, odor, smoke, and chemical off-gassing. Where things really separate is coverage and sensing. Jaspr tops out at 1,600 sq. ft. of coverage, while the Sans Air Purifier covers up to 1,854 sq. ft. per hour. Sort of remarkable for the difference in size and aesthetic.
Sans also includes a final layer of defense that Jaspr skips entirely: UV-C light, which neutralizes airborne bacteria and viruses the filter alone might miss. And when it comes to actually knowing what’s in your air, Sans’ sensors track PM2.5, PM10, and VOCs, giving you a fuller picture of air quality. Jaspr’s sensors only detect PM2.5 and VOCs… meaning it’s blind to the larger PM10 particles (think dust, pollen, and mold spores) that Sans is built to catch and report on.
There’s also the noise factor. Jaspr lists its sound range as 33 dBA to 58 dBA. Sans says it runs at just 25 dB (what they call whisper quiet). Sans does pick up noise slightly when you run it on high, but we found it to be significantly quieter than the Jaspr, even at the highest speeds.
Between broader coverage, an extra layer of UV-C protection, and more comprehensive air sensing, we’ll pick Sans here for effectiveness.
Round Three: How Will It Look In Your Home?
This is where the gap is hardest to ignore. The Jaspr is a 31.5-inch steel cylinder that looks like it was designed for a job site (because it was). It’s heavy, it’s tall, and it doesn’t exactly blend into a living room or bedroom.
Sans was designed from day one to look at home in your home. If even Architectural Digest is calling it “Best in Design,” you can bank on that. Jaspr has 1,149 reviews for a 4.9 out of 5 average rating, with 96% of reviewers saying they’d recommend the product. Sans, conversely, has a whopping 7,673 reviews for a 4.9 out of 5 average rating, and 99% of reviewers saying they’d recommend the product. With a similar rating to Jaspr, Sans has more than 6x the reviews, making us feel a bit more confident.
While many reviews for Jaspr claim it does what it’s supposed to do, some do mention the same concerns we had about the Air Scrubbr: its large size, the noise on higher settings, and even a common defect with a loose power connection that causes the unit to unplug itself. Sans reviewers consistently highlight how effective it is at eliminating dust and pet dander, how aesthetic it looks, and how simple the maintenance is.
Given the number of reviews and fewer complaints on the product, we’ll give Sans the edge here.
