The Weighted Blanket That Design Awards Can’t Stop Praising Just Got Six New Colors

Bearaby’s Holiday collection just dropped, and I’ve already picked my favorites (plus one for my kid).

I’ll be honest: I used to think weighted blankets were a gimmick.

I pictured those lumpy, sweaty, bead-filled things that felt like sleeping under a sandbag. Then a friend let me lie under her Bearaby for “five minutes,” and I woke up an hour later with no idea what day it was.

I bought my own that week. That was over a year ago, and I haven’t gone a night without it since. So when Bearaby announced their Holiday collection colors, including four new colors for their kids’ sizes, the Nappling, I made a near-instant purchase for my daughter… and decided to splurge on another adult-sized blanket, too.

The gorgeous new Marlin colorway in the Tree Napper.

The new colors are stunning, but it’s the reliability of the blanket itself that made this purchase a no-brainer.

What Makes These Bearaby Blankets So Special?

Bearaby’s knit is the whole secret. Their blankets get their weight from layers of natural fiber knitted into chunky loops, without all the beads or polyfill that ends up clumping in a corner. Just even, full-body pressure that helps your nervous system settle, while air flows right through the open weave so you never overheat.

Turns out I’m not the only one who noticed. Bearaby has picked up a Red Dot Design Award, Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Award, and a top pick from the Sleep Foundation for best weighted blanket. It also landed on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing companies.

I’ve had a Bearaby blanket for about a year now, and here’s why I want another:

  • I fall asleep faster. The weight feels like a long hug, and my brain finally gets the memo that it’s time to check out.
  • It’s machine-washable, which is rare for weighted blankets, but so convenient.
  • The knit is made with breathable, natural materials that feel soft and cozy without adding extra heat.
  • The blanket doubles as decor. I let it live on my couch, and everyone always asks about it. Which brings me to these new colors…

Here’s what I’m eyeing from the new collection:

Cotton Napper in Teal Cove

Bearaby calls it winter’s new deep blue, and they’re spot on. It’s moody without being dark, the kind of color that makes a room feel like you planned it.

If you’ve never tried a Cotton Napper, it’s hand-knit from 100% organic cotton, and the weight comes from the knit itself. No plastic beads, no polyfill, nothing shifting around in pockets. Just chunky loops that spread the weight evenly across your whole body.

And because it’s knit instead of stuffed, air actually moves through it. I’ve slept under mine every night since I got it and haven’t once woken up sweaty. It starts at $199 for a 10-pound blanket, and goes up in price by weight. I mentioned the fact that it’s machine washable, which matters more than you’d think once it becomes your everything blanket.

Tree Napper in Marlin

Here’s my other obsession. A rich, saturated purple that looks expensive in every photo, and it comes on Bearaby’s coolest blanket option.

The Tree Napper is made from TENCEL™, a fiber sourced from eucalyptus. It’s silky and cool to the touch, and it wicks moisture, so if you’re a hot sleeper (or you share a bed with a human radiator), this is the one. Slightly more expensive, starting at $249.

Nappling in Sea Glass and Moonlight Melody

This is where my wallet gives up. My daughter has been “borrowing” my Napper for months, so she’s getting her own Nappling (Bearaby’s term for a kid’s size) for the holidays. I just can’t decide which color.

Sea Glass is soft and dreamy. Moonlight Melody is sweet without being babyish, so she won’t outgrow it in a year. I might get both and call one a “backup.”

The Nappling is Bearaby’s kids’ blanket: the same organic cotton knit, sized for little bodies, in 5 or 7 lbs. It’s designed to help kids settle down at bedtime and cut down on restless tossing and turning, which, in my house, is the whole bedtime battle. They start at $169.

The other two colors in this drop are also for the Nappling: Blue Iris and Gentle Sky:

There’s really no wrong answer here. The whole collection leans into calm, wintry blues, and the real aesthetic is how gorgeous the chunky knit looks.

So, Which One Are You Picking?

I ended up getting the Tree Napper in Marlin (because stunning) and a Nappling for my daughter in Moonlight Melody. She loved the color-blocking. And I have to admit, it looks pretty adorable on her bed.

If you’ve been on the fence about a weighted blanket, this might be your sign. Better sleep, zero sweaty nights, and a blanket you’ll actually want on display. That combo is rare. One word of advice: don’t wait. New colors are the ones that always go first, and this drop is too pretty to sit on shelves for long.
