I Spent $200+ on Two Top Luxury Face Masks So You Don’t Have To…

I’m the Ultimate Sucker for Spending Money on Expensive Skincare.

And I’ve really been in a situationship with expensive face masks for a few years now. The thing is, I’ve yet to find one that’s really worth all that money, for a consistent piece to my routine at least. Most skincare face masks are more like glorified spa days, nice-to-haves when you want to treat yourself.

So this is why I was quite intrigued when I came across two very different luxury face masks: Hanacure’s All-In-One Facial and Augustinus Bader’s Hydrogel Face Mask. These viral products are supposed to revitalize your complexion from the inside out, not just feel nice and give you a glow that lasts 2 hours.

So, of course, I decided to do what any self-respecting beauty editor would do: I bought them both and ran a test. Same face, same routine, honest results.

Aaaaaaand spoiler alert: one of them did, in fact, actually change my skin. The other was a very nice evening.

Meet the Brands

Augustinus Bader

Augustinus Bader has a serious résumé. The brand is built around a German biomedical scientist’s decades of research into cell regeneration, and that credibility is a big part of what you’re paying for. The Hydrogel Face Mask uses his proprietary TFC8® technology, which is supposed to support the skin’s natural repair process. Impressive on paper… and the price tag reflects it.

Hanacure

Hanacure is the new kid (founded in 2017) that basically broke the internet. Their All-In-One Facial® went viral because it apparently lifts, tightens, and transforms your skin in 20 minutes. We’re talking 17,000+ rave reviews for 4.9/5 stars, celebrity shoutouts, and features in every glossy mag from Vogue to Vanity Fair. It’s gone from viral trend to legit industry favorite in a couple years… which almost never happens in skincare. Drew Barrymore also said this face mask “changed her life.” So… that’s something.

To do the experiment, I tested both masks myself, breaking them down by results, price, and overall experience. Here’s what happened…

Results: Hanacure

I’ll cut to what you probably want to hear right away. Hanacure delivered the most visible, longest-lasting results of the two. It actually wasn’t even close… it was the kind of change I guess everyone refers to as the “Hanacure glow.”

Here’s how both masks actually performed:

Price: Hanacure (Sort of)

Neither of these “luxury skincare masks” are cheap. But the math tells an interesting story.

Hanacure All-In-One Facial® Set:

  • $118 for 4 masks, or $29.50 per mask
  • Recommended use: weekly for a month, then every 10 days or monthly for maintenance

Augustinus Bader Hydrogel Face Mask:

  • $185 for 6 masks, or $30.83 per mask
  • Recommended use: 2–3 times per week

They’re basically the same price per mask. The difference is what each mask is actually doing for your skin and how often you need to use it to see results. Hanacure was great because the protocol tapered over time: I was using it weekly at first, but now I just use it for maintenance. For Bader’s mask to maintain the glow, I had to use it at least twice a week. I could see myself burning through those $185 boxes a little too fast.

Considering the usage rate alongside the results Hanacure actually gave me, I’m gonna have to go with Hanacure here. To me, it’s the far better investment.

Experience: Hanacure

The Augustinus Bader experience is exactly what you’d expect from a brand at this price point: luxurious, minimal, and refined. The hydrogel sheet goes on cold, fits snugly, and you just… sit there feeling like you’re at a very expensive spa. That part is genuinely nice. There’s nothing to complain about, which is maybe the most diplomatic thing I’ve ever written about a $185 product.

Hanacure is a different kind of experience. I knew they’d gone viral for the “zombie mask” tightening effect… but I was not prepared for how fun it would be. I first had to mix two solutions together (a Octolift® Solution and an Ampoule), then I painted it on my face and watched myself turn into a comic book character. It’s somewhere between science experiment and skincare experience. It’s amazing.

The crazy thing was that Hanacure’s effects just improved over time. I had a glow from day one, but in just a couple of weeks, I started to notice the look of my fine lines disappearing, my skin taking on more of a bouncy, tight feel, and even my old acne scarring fading away.

Bader’s mask didn’t really have a timeline beyond feeling great in the moment. Which to me, is just a different category of product. I’ve seen this movie before, you know what I mean?

The Verdict: Drew Barrymore’s Life Isn’t the Only One Hanacure Changed

Augustinus Bader’s Hydrogel Mask is a beautiful product. It’s a lovely ritual, it’s well-formulated, and if you want to feel pampered on a Tuesday night, it absolutely delivers on that. No notes.

But Hanacure actually changed my skin. Not just for the evening, but for the week. The kind of results I’d normally associate with an in-office treatment, happening in my bathroom in 20 minutes. That’s not something I can ignore.

Hanacure is the pick if:

  • You want results that last beyond the next morning
  • You’re looking for visible lifting and firming, not just surface hydration
  • You’d rather do a treatment less frequently than a ritual more often
  • You want to feel genuinely shocked when you look in the mirror post-mask

It’s also worth knowing that Hanacure offers free shipping and a 100% money-back guarantee, so there’s no real risk in trying it yourself. Everyone’s skin is different, so don’t just take my word for it.

Bottom line: not all luxury face masks are playing the same game. If you want the spa glow, go Bader. If you want to actually see something change… go Hanacure.
